AKRON – Today, Emilia Sykes filed official petitions declaring her candidacy for the 34th district of the Ohio House of Representatives.

“I am so grateful to everyone who signed these petitions, enabling me to take this important step forward in my campaign for the Ohio House of Representatives,” said Sykes.  “Today is exciting, but now the real work begins.  Throughout this year and beyond, I will be connecting with residents of our district to understand the issues that matter most to them, and work for sensible, long-term solutions.

“Now more than ever, we must make the 34th district a home that we can all be proud of.  This is my home, and I will work to empower this community, to provide quality healthcare to our citizens, and improve our education system to attract good-paying jobs here.”

In recent days leading up to the filing, Sykes has received endorsements from the Ohio Democratic Party and Chairman Chris Redfern, State Senator Tom Sawyer, D-Akron, Summit County Executive Russ Pry, Ohio House Minority Leader Tracy Maxwell Heard, D-Columbus, and the Affiliated Construction Trades of Ohio (ACT Ohio) that represents more than 130 local affiliates and close to 90,000 unionized constructions workers across the state.
